Disengagement is a business cost. What could it be costing you?

Your payroll is a real investment. Lost focus, disconnected teams and missed collaboration can erode its value. Put a number against the risk, then define what a worthwhile programme needs to achieve.

The cost does not stop when the working day ends.

Salaries are visible. The cost of reduced contribution is harder to see. Treat engagement as a business question, not just an events budget.

LyfeGo designs structured opportunities for connection, participation and team development. These can support a wider engagement strategy, but do not replace action on management, workload or working conditions.

Singapore’s engagement context

86% not engaged or actively disengaged

  • 86% not engaged or actively disengaged

These national figures do not establish your organisation’s engagement level or predict the impact of a LyfeGo programme. Use your own baseline to agree appropriate measures.

How much is disengagement costing your company?

Gallup estimates that low engagement cost the global economy approximately US$10 trillion in lost productivity in 2025, equivalent to 9% of global GDP. Your company’s cost needs its own evidence, not an automatic percentage of payroll.

Inclusivity needs to be designed in.

If your ambition is to include 80–100% of your company, inclusivity needs to be a design factor from the start. Adjust the activities, involve leadership and offer meaningful variety. Participation remains a target, not a guarantee.

Adapt the activity, not the people.

Even sports associated with speed and contact, such as football and rugby, can be redesigned with lower-intensity formats. Rules, pace, equipment and contact levels should fit the participant profile, not the other way round.

One LyfeGo example is three-legged football: pairs coordinate their movement, making communication part of the activity. A simple change can create a different way for colleagues to interact.

Three-legged formats can introduce balance and trip risks. Use them only where suitable after assessing participants and conditions, with alternative formats available. Every activity needs its own review.

Adjust the demands

  • Pace and contact
  • Rules and equipment
  • Space and recovery

Fit the participants

  • Confidence and experience
  • Physical considerations
  • Suitable alternatives

Team Bonding Experience

Connection and shared experience in 2–4 hours. Target 80%+ active participation and create at least three structured interaction opportunities. Participation is a target, not a guarantee.

Corporate Sports Carnival

Broad participation and activity discovery for 50 or more people. Design the timetable and capacity to enable at least four activity experiences, with individual take-up depending on preferences and suitability.

What does your budget mean per participant?

Compare two participation assumptions against the same budget. Use the results to discuss programme design and capacity.

Your planning assumptions

Example values are editable. These are not quoted prices.

Scenario A

50% participation assumption

$120.00

per active participant

100

estimated active participants

Scenario B

80% participation assumption

$75.00

per active participant

160

estimated active participants

What changes between the scenarios?

+60 active participants in Scenario B

Active participants = invited employees × participation rate, rounded to whole people. Cost per active participant = total budget ÷ active participants. Where the estimate rounds to zero, no unit cost is calculated.

This comparison assumes the same budget and sufficient delivery capacity. Higher participation may require additional staffing, equipment or venue capacity. Figures are planning scenarios, not a forecast, a LyfeGo quote or a measure of financial ROI. Agree what counts as active participation before measuring it.

Agree what the programme needs to achieve before committing the budget.
